Sølyst

TYPE: refurbishment

CLIENT: the royal copenhagen shooting society

YEAR: 2020

Built in the 1724 as a grand country house, Sølyst became a celebrated hub of Danish society and culture, particularly during the residence of Ernst Schimmelmann (1747-1831). During his time at Sølyst, Schimmelmann hosted a series of vibrant salons, attended by statesmen, diplomats, businessmen and artists. Currently, Sølyst is the home of The Royal Copenhagen Shooting Society, itself a cultural institution, with a history stretching back for centuries. Currently, Kjær Architecture is planning and designing a new suite of washrooms for Sølyst; both to update the current facilities and to add an elevated sense of materials and finishes, worthy of this storied house.
